The root canal system has been permanently sealed. However, the outer surface is sealed with a temporary restoration. A proper final restoration of the tooth is extremely important in ensuring long-term success.Contact your restorative dentist to arrange your next

appointment.Do not eat anything until the numbness

in your mouth wears off. This will prevent you from

biting your cheek or tongue. 
It is normal to feel some tenderness in the area

for a few days after your root canal treatment.

These symptoms are temporary and usually respond very well to over-the-counter pain medications. Small percentage of cases will require an antibiotics.

This procedure will be performed using local anesthesia for your comfort. Continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.


Please eat a full breakfast or lunch as applicable.


If you have been advised by your physician or dentist to use antibiotic premedication because of mitral valve prolapse (MVP), heart murmur, hip, knee, cardiac or other prosthesis, or if you have rheumatic heart disease, please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your appointment.

After Endodontic Surgery

Rest as much as possible after the surgery. 


Maintain good oral hygiene, but avoid brushing the surgical area the same day of the surgery.  The day after surgery, use warm salt water rinses (1 teaspoon of salt to a cup of warm water) or the prescription mouth rinse (if provided). 

Rinse 4-5 times per day for a week. 


Avoid hot fluids like coffee or tea.  Stay with soft, bland foods (soups, eggs, etc) for 2 days.  Avoid chewing in the surgical area until the sutures are removed, and avoid hard or chewy foods for 1 week.  Avoid smoking.

Stitches will be removed 2-7 days after the procedure
